The accessibility of the built environment should be considered as a system, not just as a sum of individual elements. Accessible urban planning refers to the urban system that includes the organization and usability of road and pedestrian networks and urban spaces. To ensure a safe, accessible, and usable urban system, it is important for urban planning and urban regeneration to develop tools capable of promoting the design of new urban areas and routes, or the redesign and good maintenance of existing ones, based on the objectives outlined in the guidelines.
Priority objectives will therefore be to guarantee personal mobility and the creation of usable route networks between the places of greatest interest and attractiveness for citizens and occasional visitors, fostering synergies and aggregations even between different municipalities.
The webinar will present the Guidelines as a useful tool not only to comply with regulatory requirements regarding overcoming barriers and accessible design, but above all to guide design towards a broader, participatory, and coordinated vision, placing social dimension, the value of relationships, and social participation of all citizens at the centre. These Plans become an indispensable tool for revitalizing the attractiveness of territories and promoting their development, generating well-being and attractiveness, thanks to complete accessibility, usability, and safety.
The support activity that ANCI Lombardia provides to the Municipalities is aimed not only at ensuring correct and effective information and training on the PEBA but also at identifying possible and additional levels of implementation regarding regulations that affect the transformation of the urban fabric.
